How To Stop Taking Things Personally – Suzanne Robichaud, RCH

Taking Things Personally, we have all done it. It’s when somebody has said or done something and we automatically think that they had a hidden agenda. Or, we automatically think they are trying to hurt us in some way. Whatever is behind it, we believe that they were directing it at us. Taking Things Personally is when we take something that someone else said or did and we give it deep meaning and our power.
For many of us Taking Things Personally happens from time to time, it bothers us for a bit, but then we let it go and move on. For others, it’s a bit more often. For some people Taking Things Personally can happen the moment they step outside and join the rest of the world. From the wrong look of a stranger or being cut off in traffic. It can happen with strangers, co-workers and family members throughout their day.
If we find ourselves consistently taking things personally, we need to stop and ask ourselves what feeling is being evoked. When I am Taking Things Personally, what unhealed would is being poked every time these things happen? How is this making me feel?
Often, taking things personally is because of insecurities around feeling like we are not good enough, smart enough, or that we don’t matter. Taking Things Personally can also be triggered by having unresolved feelings from the other person. It can also mean that we have some healing to do.
Now, this does not have to be a big deal or scary. But it is an opportunity for us to grow, it is an opportunity for us to gain greater inner peace. You see as we resolve any wounds from past experiences, we are less likely to be triggered, less likely to Take Things Personally. One less thing from outside of us to affect our inner peace.
And that is how this works. When these things come up, especially when we can’t let something go, or when we see something repeated over and over again, it is an opportunity to heal, to grow and to make achieving and staying in a peaceful state that much easier. This is a perfect example of how when we change what’s happening on the inside, what’s happening around us will change.
Now, a key factor in all of this is the automatic part. We automatically take it personally. We automatically have a reaction to the other person. When it is automatic, that lets us know it is seated in our subconscious. In other words, this reaction is coming from the subconscious part of our mind. Which lets us know we are responding from something that we are holding onto from the past.
Whether it has to do with a specific person or a specific theme. Understanding your subconscious mind is so powerful. Understanding that our subconscious mind holds on to everything we have learned, everything we have experienced and everything we have felt.
I am sure you can close your eyes and think of a little puppy or a baby and get a good feeling inside. That is because whenever we are around a little puppy or baby they do make us feel good and that feeling gets anchored into our subconscious and now it is in us. We can just think about a puppy or baby and that feeling is evoked. It is super important to point out that our subconscious holds onto positive and negative emotions. That is why being in touch with and understanding your subconscious mind and your emotions is so important.
Hypnotherapy is all about working directly with the subconscious mind, that part of our mind where all these reactions are held. Often, if we have an experience that makes us feel uncomfortable, the subconscious part of our mind will hold onto that feeling to keep us safe. So that when we are around something or someone that makes us feel that way, we will get a signal from within to leave the scene. But, the subconscious part of our mind has no perception of time. This part of our mind does not know we are not still the child being bullied at school. This part of our mind does not know that something happened 10 or 20 years ago.
Hypnotherapy is the perfect tool to release old emotions still being held onto by the subconscious mind. While in Hypnosis (a natural state) we can use our imagination and heal the wound and release the pain. Allowing you to be free from Taking Things Personally.
Life without taking things personally is so freeing, trust me, I was one of those people that would take everything personally. And now that I no longer do that, it has had a huge effect on my life… definitely making it easier to stay in a place of inner peace. And it is so freeing to not be bothered so easily by the outside world.
I created a Hypnotherapy session to help you free your mind from Taking Things Personally. You can use it anytime something comes up to train your mind to no longer Take Things Personally. One less thing to pull you away from your inner peace.
